For homeowners who live on the grid and in suburban areas, gas remains the single most efficient and convenient method of heating their property.
However, many people who live in rural locations don’t have access to this fuel source, and in this instance, homeowners will usually have to choose between oil-fired and liquid petroleum gas (LPG) boilers.
But what exactly are these fuel sources, and which one is right for you? Here are some points to keep in mind:
Oil and LPG Boilers - How Do They Work?
Interestingly, both oil and LPG are relatively efficient fuel sources, and they’re certainly cheaper than electricity.
They also function in the same way, with both fuels supplying a flame in your boiler that’s subsequently used to heat water. From here, the water is then circulated throughout your heating system, ensuring that your radiators heat quickly and remain fit for purpose.
These fuel sources also boast a number of similarities, in that they’re easy to transport and can be stored safely even in remote locations.
It’s also fair to say that both oil and LPG are eco-friendlier than most traditional heating fuels, although the latter is the most energy-efficient and produces a comparatively low amount of carbon emissions.
OK, But Which Fuel Source is Right for You?
Given the similar nature of these fuel sources, it can be difficult to determine which option is right for you and your home.
One of the main benefits of LPG, when compared with oil, is that registered gas engineers are far easier to find than those who work with oil. The reason for this is simple; both traditional and natural gases remain extremely popular in households and regions throughout the UK.
It can also be argued that LPG installations are a little cheaper than oil boilers on average, as the latter requires you to fit a storage tank somewhere in your home. Of course, this also enables you to buy oil in volume and make cash savings, but if you’re on an initial budget an LPG boiler may be the best option.
